Defenceman on target at last in latest success
Raiders defenceman David Oliver revealed his relief at netting his first goal of the season in their National League win over Bracknell.
Oliver struck in the 5-2 success at Lee Valley to break his duck, in his 32nd appearance of the campaign, and skated off with the man of the match award too.
He said: “It was nice to get a goal – it has been a long time coming for me!
“But that’s not my job. My job is to stop the puck going in our net and I think we are playing so well as a team at the moment.
“It’s the best we’ve played all season and it’s coming at the right time for us with the play-offs coming up.
“We aim to take that into every weekend.”
Raiders face a home double-header this weekend as they host Streatham, their rivals for fourth place, in a rearranged fixture on Saturday (5.30pm), before welcoming newly crowned league champions Chelmsford on Sunday (7.30pm).
Oliver is under no illusions as to the challenge, but says Raiders are up for it.
He added: “It’s another big weekend coming up.
“We know we’re going to end up fourth or fifth and playing Streatham in the play-offs, so Saturday is a big game for both teams.
“We’re 3-and-0 against them so far and hope to be 4-and-0 by Saturday night and take that into the play-offs against them.
“Sunday needs no words against Chelmsford.
“We have a great thing going with our small team and we won’t let them mess it up!
“We still have some of the best players in this league and we’re all playing well. We’ve shown everyone what we can do with just 12 guys.”
