World record for GB relay squad
Amy Marren rounded off an unforgettable IPC World Championships with her fourth gold medal in the 4x100m medley relay in Canada last night.
Hall Mead pupil Marren, 15, had already won the S9 200m medley and 100m butterfly titles, as well as anchoring GB’s 4x100m freestyle relay squad to victory.
And after picking up her second silver medal of the week in the 100m backstroke, with a new personal best behind team-mate Steph Millward, the Romford Town youngster claimed another relay gold after a storming final leg.
“These championships have been amazing and I don’t really want to go home to be honest,” said Newham-born Marren, who is set to leave Montreal tomorrow (Tuesday).
“I’ve really enjoyed the past two weeks and had a lot of fun. Winning relay gold with these girls on the last night in a world record is the perfect way to finish.”
Steph Slater and Claire Cashmore completed the line-up as the GB squad took six seconds off the world record to win in 4.46.21, a massive 13 seconds clear of second-placed Russia.
Christine Ohuruogu and Mo Farah have been nominated for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year.
