London Raiders ‘looking good’

Oliver pleased with new signings
London Raiders assistant captain David Oliver believes the team’s new additions can help them move up the National League table in the closing weeks of the season.
Ryan Bainborough made only his second appearance for the club in their 5-5 draw with Streatham at the weekend, as Matt France found the net on his return to the club from Chelmsford.
And John Connolly made an assured debut on the blue line to give Oliver much cause for optimism.
He said: “The new boys looked great. We know what we get from Matty, he’s a solid player and has a rocket of a shot and brings our powerplay along.
“JC is the one for me. The guy is a calm head in our D and he would walk into any team in this league.
“I feel as a team we have picked up some jewels in those two. It will only help out in the long run.
“But not only do we have them, Ryan in net too helped out and is looking better and better and will help out P-head (Michael Gray) with the games.”
Raiders built a 4-2 lead against the Redskins in the South East Cup tie at Lee Valley thanks to a hat-trick from Slovakian import Marek Nahlik and France’s powerplay effort.
But they then conceded three unanswered goals to find themselves behind before Michal Oravec netted against his former club to ensure a share of the spoils.
Oliver added: “It was a great game of hockey. I feel we should have come out on top in the end, but we had to settle for a point.
“On paper now we have a great team and Saturday night was a turning point for us. We can start picking up wins now and moving up the league and pushing on for the play-offs.”
Raiders are set to welcome leaders Chelmsford to Lee Valley this weekend, looking to end an eight-match winless streak.
