London Raiders forward Jj Pitchley is disappointed as his side fell to fifth in the National Ice Hockey League table after two defeats on the weekend.

The Romford-based club suffered back-to-back defeats as they lost 6-1 to Peterborough Phantoms at the Sapphire Ice & Leisure Centre on Saturday before being edged out 3-2 to Swindon Wildcats at the Link Centre the following night.

24-year-old Pitchley admitted mistakes cost them against the two former English Premier League teams and they have to be stronger than that.

“It’s a big disappointment, it’s never good not picking up any points but the work rate from the boys was there we just made a few mistakes and against top teams it can’t happen as they capitalised on our mistakes and put the game to bed.”

The defeat to the Wildcats capped off their series against Aaron Nell’s men for the year, winning one and losing five, including their cup quarter-final games.

The former Romford junior believes they’ve done a lot better than everyone expected against the old EPL teams and must be proud of that.

“I believe at the start of the season everyone would have written any of the old NIHL teams off for beating the old EPL teams, but we have put in some great shows against the old EPL teams and beat three of the four, which is a great achievement.

“As a unit we are solid and well drilled we just need to tighten up and not concede when we have the lead.”
