London Raiders will wrap up for Christmas after playing Invicta in a back-to-back fixtures this weekend, writes Jacob Ranson.

The Lee Valley-based club will welcome the Dynamos to Lee Valley Arena on Saturday (5.30pm), before making to trip to Gillingham a day later (5.15pm).

And coach Sean Easton wants to go into the two-week break with another four points to ensure they hit all of the targets set for the first half of their National League campaign.

“We need another two wins this weekend to finish the first half of the season on target,” Easton said.

“We aimed to be fourth or fifth at the end of the year and that’s where we currently are right now.”

Opposite number Kevin Parrish has been trying to strengthen Kent-based Invicta in recent weeks and has brought in forwards Jaroslav Cesky and Steve Osman.

The Raiders have already come up against the two new faces and triumphed with a 5-2 victory, but the Dynamos have also signed moved to sign former London defenceman Ross Connolly, who will be making his debut against his old club this weekend.

“We’ve played and beaten Invicta already with Cesky and Osman in the line-up, but Ross will strengthen them even further,” added Easton, who still believes forward Callum Fowler and goalie Damien King are the key figures for their opponents.

“Fowler is always a scoring threat, but Damien King is who keeps them in games at times,” he said.

The former Chelmsford Chieftains coach is pleased with his side’s first half of the season as they are winning most of their head-to-heads and have progressed into the National League Cup quarter-finals.

“Winning the mini series against the old NIHL teams was a must,” Easton said.

“We’re 2-0 up over Streatham IHC, 2-0 up over Cardiff Fire, 1-0 up over Invicta Dynamos, 2-0 up over Milton Keynes Thunder and even 1-0 up against former EPL side Peterbourgh Phantoms, but we’re 2-0 down to Swindon Wildcats, Basingstoke Bison and Bracknell Bees.

“We’ve also progressed to the quarter finals in the cup as we aimed for, so this first half of the season is well on track and a win this weekend is massive to end the year.”
