London Raiders defenceman Jack Cooper netted his second goal of the season in their 6-1 victory against Cardiff Fire.

The 21-year-old netted his first Raiders goal on his 117th appearance for the team as they claimed an 11-1 victory against Invicta Dynamos in October and has quickly moved to add to his tally after waiting so long for his first.

“It felt good, I probably need to slow down now, I don’t want to be scoring too many goals,” Cooper joked.

The Lee Valley-based club shared the goals amongst the team as they cruised to a comfortable victory and another two league points in their long trip to Cardiff.

“It was good to get a comfortable win away, especially travelling all the way to Cardiff.

“There’s nothing worse than a long road trip home and you’ve lost the game.

“I felt that we played well as a team, helped each other out on the ice and stood up for each other.

“I was gutted we couldn’t get P Head (Michael Gray) his shut out though.”

The former Albany pupil praised the bottom of the table National League club for their work rate.

“Cardiff are a hard working gritty team,” he said.

“Although they’re not the best team in the league, they carry on battling until then end.”

The following night the gold and blue outfit were set to host league leaders Peterborough Phantoms but they were forced to postpone the match due to problems with the ice at Lee Valley Arena.

Raiders were looking to make it a four-point weekend back in the capital. The club were also looking forward to hosting their first-ever ‘Teddy Bear Toss’ in support of their chosen charity The National Autistic Society, while Peterborough arrived in east London on the back of a 6-1 win of their own over Sheffield Steeldogs.

But both sides were left frustrated as a patch of ice around one of the goalmouths was coned off, having been turned red by a damaged glycol pipe.

“Sunday was disappointing it was cancelled as it was our charity match and a lot of people were turning up,” Cooper admitted.

“I felt sorry for our long-distance travelling players like Jules (Julian Smith) and Munsy (Andy Munroe).”
