Supporters were asked to vote for their favourite players, from a list of the top 100 appearance makers in club history, and a squad of 22 has been announced by the club.

Among those selected are all-time leading points scorer Danny Marshall, original Canadian player-coach Gord Jeffrey and all-star defenceman Rob Stewart.

Finnish duo Timo Kauhanen and Jani Lehtovaara are also included, along with Canadian forward Kyle Amyotte, and former captain Tom Davis, after it was revealed he would not be returning to the Sapphire Ice & Leisure Centre-based team in an earlier announcement.

It said: “Few statements regarding the team building will be more difficult to construct than this one has been.

“Tom Davis has been ever present for the club since the part-season he served in 2009-10. A captain for some of that time with 362 appearamces, 88 goals and 156 assists forming the 244 points scored for the club.

“No-one would doubt the enormous amount of time and effort Tom has expended as part of the Raiders in that time.

“The Raiders are becoming a complete hockey club since their home ice in Romford has become available. It was hoped Tom would bring his experience into the Raiders planned Division Two team and help bring through some of the new talent that will be emerging.

“Tom will sadly be leaving the Raiders organisation, which we fully understand and appreciate and we wish him all the very best success in whatever he chooses to do. We would like to thank him for all he has given to the Raiders over the past eight seasons.”

The Legends are set to be co-coached by Troy Walkington and Erskine Douglas, with Joy Johnson (nee Tottman), Dave Cloutman and Phil O’Neill acting as referees.

A club statement said: “There are reserve players should some of the guys not be able to attend and a few surprises planned for the day, which really is a celebration of hockey back in Romford.

“Make sure that your diary has a big mark next to this day!”

The squad of 22 players made a combined total of 6,306 appearances in gold and blue.
