Marshall’s men welcome Cardiff on first night

Raiders player-coach Danny Marshall professed himself happy with his side’s opening fixtures for the 2014/15 National League season.

The newly named Cardiff Fire are set to visit Lee Valley Ice Arena for the first match of the campaign on September 6, with Bracknell Hornets to follow a week later.

Raiders hit the road for the first time on September 21 to take on Solent & Gosport, before returning to home ice six days later to host new boys Oxford.

Marshall will sit out the first game due to suspension, following the abandonment of his side’s play-off match at Streatham in April, while Frankie Harvey misses the opening four fixtures.

But Marshall said: “We will have enough talent and experience on the team to start the season with a win.

“It’s not a bad start to get the team going but you can’t take any teams lightly.”

As well as Marshall and fellow forward Harvey, Raiders have so far announced the returns of import Jakub Klima, AJ Smith and David Oliver, with more revelations to follow in the coming weeks.

The first derby match against Chelmsford takes place at the Riverside Ice Arena on October 5, with the Chieftains then set to make their first appearance at Lee Valley on November 15.

The two fierce rivals meet again twice in December.
