Local hockey players Emma Isherwood, of the Havering club, and Kerry Hodges, who plays for Upminster, were part of the Essex over-40s squad that took part in the regional qualifiers for the National Championships.

The duo were part of the county squad that travelled to Culford School, Bury St Edmunds, to compete in the qualifiers.

Essex faced a very strong Hertfordshire side, which included several England Masters players, but came away 3-0 winners.

Hodges got on the scoresheet in that fixture, deflecting in Isherwood’s penalty corner strike.

In their second match, Essex played Kent and recorded a 2-1 win, despite the opposition taking the lead, with Isherwood putting away a penalty stroke to gain the win.

Essex will now go forward to the regional finals to be played at Lee Valley later in the season.

The county squad will again face Hertfordshire in the next round, along with Norfolk and Cambridgeshire.
