Havering’s Emily Defroand helped Surbiton women claim their fifth successive Investec League title at Lee Valley Hockey & Tennis Centre on Sunday.

Having beaten Buckingham 3-0 in their semi-final on Saturday, thanks to goals from Olympic gold medalists Giselle Ansley and Hollie Pearne-Webb, with Holly Payne also on target, they faced Holcombe in the final.

And an early goal from Sarah Page on eight minutes put them on their way to another success, before Pearne-Webb fired home her second goal of the weekend to double the advantage.

Beckie Middleton got in on the act to make it 3-0 at half time and although Heather McEwan hit back for Holcombe after the restart they could not make any further inroads into Surbiton’s lead.

Former Coopers pupil Defroand helped England win bronze at the Commonwealth Games in Australia recently and will be hoping to play in the World Cup this summer.
