Havering 4 Basildon 2
Havering’s women gave themselves a boost ahead of their trip to East Two South East leaders Burnt Ash with victory over Basildon.
The hosts began well as snow fell, forcing an early short corner which Steph Prowse slipped to Alex Semon, who saw a reverse-stick shot deflected in by Sue Harwood.
Fantastic work by the Basildon keeper denied Havering a second goal, as they forced more short corners thanks to good work in midfield from Blaise Copeland, Catherine Semon, Lauren Earle, Vicky Morrison and Harwood, and the visitors took advantage of a rare lapse in concentration to get themselves back on level terms.
But Havering kept working hard and Harwood’s shot was touched in by Emily Gilkes-Tarsey, before Morrison foud Emma Isherwood and her cross to the far post was converted by Alex Semon.
Battling Basildon hit back for a second time before the break, but Havering continued to apply pressure in the second half, as Prowse, Charlotte Chamberlin, Louise Burgess and Bethan Isherwood held firm in defence and Sophie McCoy dealt comfortably with the few shots that came her way.
A foul on Morrison saw the hosts awarded a penalty stroke, but Emma Isherwood fired wide, while Alex Semon and Katie Griggs were also unfortunate not to score.
Havering made sure with a fourth goal, though, when Burgess made a driving run into the D and fired goalwards, with Griggs pouncing on the rebound to score.
The seconds and thirds were without fixtures, while the fourths saw their clash with Southend thirds, originally scheduled for November, postponed for a third time.
