Cranston Park set to host borough finals

With Wimbledon over for another year, the highlight of the Havering Schools tennis calendar takes place today, with the finals at Cranston Park Tennis Club.

Boys and girls will compete in order to gain silverware in single and doubles categories.

The under-13 boys singles semi-finals start at 12pm, when Coopers Coborn’s Zack Eljaidi faces Tommy Smith (Emerson Park) and Neo Wren meets Sam King in an all-Coopers clash.

The under-15 boys singles also gets underway at 12pm as Coopers duo Toby Dunlea and Jack Payne prepare for a fiercely contested affair to reach the final.

The other semi-final sees a third Coopers pupil, Brad McDermott, taking on Campion’s Josh Walsh in what is sure to be an exciting encounter between two rival schools.

The finals and third-place play-offs will follow at 12.45pm.

The girls singles competitions are something to look forward to as two different schools battle it out to become Havering champion.

Emerson Park’s Grace Wooley faces Darcie Salmons of Albany in the under-13 final, while the under-15 final sees Coopers rivals Lucy Scrutton and Riya Sethi go head-to-head.

The under-13 boys doubles pits Coopers against Hall Mead in both semi-finals. Wren and Jamie Bixby of Coopers take on Sam Bridger and Daniel Parker, while Brad Murphy and Harry Atkinson meet Alex Dunbar and Cameron Wiley.

In the under-15 event, four different schools battle it out to see who will be crowned the borough’s best.

Cooper’s students McDermott and Dunlea team up to face Jack Sammons and Nick Middleton of Marshalls Park in one tie, while Campion’s Walsh and Chris Whitbread meet Finn Hutton and Jon Payling of Sanders in the other.

In the girls under-13 doubles final, Emily Thompson and Kimberly Montague of Sacred Heart take on Hall Mead’s Tess Catherall and Victoria Walker.

The under-15 event is an all-Coopers encounter between Scrutton/Sethi and Anna Clements/Phoebe Menear.

So why not head down to Cranston Park to witness some top class tennis!
