It is a little known fact that Arsenal have never signed a player from West Ham United! Snobs!!
There have been plenty who have made the journey from Highbury and the Emirates over to Upton Park though and on the eve of they first clash between the two at the London Stadium on Saturday we have listed those players.
We have rated them in order from the best right down to Jeremie Aliadiere. See what you think and who would be your number one player to have played for both.
1. LIAM BRADY
A true Arsenal legend, the Irishman helped the Gunners to a memorable FA Cup win in 1979 and in that same season, he was voted the PFA player of the year.
Moved to West Ham from Italian side Ascoli in 1989 and showed he still had class in over 100 appearances in claret and blue, scoring 10 goals.
2. JIM STANDEN
A magnificent sportsman, Jim won a county championship cricket medal with Worcestershire and had an even more illustrious career in football. Started at Arsenal where he made 35 league appearances, he made his name at West Ham.
Standen was between the posts for the FA Cup win in 1964 and the European Cup Winners’ Cup victory the following season. Made 236 appearances for the Hammers.
3. NIGEL WINTERBURN
After establishing himself at Wimbledon, he has an Illustrious career at Highbury where the full-back won three league titles, both domestic cups as well as the Cup Winners’ Cup.
Not as successful at West Ham, where he moved in 2000, he still was a steadying influence, making 94 appearances and scoring one goal.
4. JOHN HARTSON
The big Welsh striker moved from Luton to Arsenal in 1995 making 54 league appearances and scoring 14 goals, but it was his move to West Ham that really kick-started his career. Teamed up with another new signing in Paul Kitson to save the Hammers from relegation, he eventually scored 33 goals in 73 appearances, only for a training ground incident with Eyal Berkovic to hasten his departure to Wimbledon.
5. IAN WRIGHT
Rightly an Arsenal legend, he broke the club scoring record at the time with 185 in 279 starts and won the Premier League, two FA Cups, one league cup and the Cup winners’ Cup at Highbury.
Moved to West Ham for £500,000 and scored on his debut as well as helping them to the Intertoto Cup in 25 games for the Hammers, scoring nine goals.
6. BOBBY GOULD
Came to Arsenal via Coventry in 1968 and though never really establishing himself at Highbury, the striker did score in the League Cup Final defeat by Swindon and helped them to European Fairs Cup victory.
Moved to West Ham via Bristol City in 1973, where his claim to fame was a winners medal in the 1975 FA Cup final as an unused sub.
7. STEVE WALFORD
Played 77 league games for Arsenal between 1977-80, helping them to FA Cup glory in 1979. Moved to West Ham, via Norwich City in 1983 where he made over 100 appearances for the Hammers.
8. JIMMY BLOOMFIELD
Another to establish himself at Highbury, the striker made over 200 appearances for the Gunners, scoring 54 goals. Moved to West Ham late in his career, hitting a blank in 10 matches.
9. MATTY UPSON
Made 35 appearances for Arsenal at the beginning of his career, but it was at West Ham where he made his name, earning England call-ups, though he was captain when they were relegated.
10. STUART ROBSON
Billericay-born midfielder started at Arsenal where he made 150 appearances between 1981 and 1987, winning their player of the year award in 1984. Moved to West Ham in a £700,000 deal and was the Hammer of the Year in 1988.
11. ALEX SONG
A real talent, the midfielder played for seven years at Arsenal, making over 100 apperances before joining Barcelona. He arrived on loan for two spells at Upton Park and proved inconsistent, one day brilliant, the next, anonymous.
12. LUIS BOA MORTE
A player who never quite filled his potential for either club. Was in and out of the Arsenal team and was frustrating for the Hammers as the international played close to 100 games, but scored just two goals.
13. FREDDIE LJUNGBERG
His best days were certainly at Arsenal where he won an impressive two Premier Leagues and three FA Cups. Came to West Ham as part of a vanity project for then chairman Eggert Magnusson, but never reached those heights. Made 25 appearances and scored two goals.
14. DAVOR SUKER
Legendary Yugoslav striker was nearing the end of his great career when he arrived at Arsenal, scoring eight goals in 22 league games for the Gunners. Moved to West Ham in 2000 but never made a real impression, scoring just three goals.
15. LEE CHAPMAN
After impressing at Stoke City, he made the move to Arsenal in 1982, but scored just four goals in 23 appearances. His time at West Ham came between 1993 and 1995, where he scored 11 goals in 50 appearances.
16. JOHN RADFORD
One of the heroes of Arsenal’s double winning side in 1971, he played close to 500 games for the Gunners, scoring 149 goals before moving to Upton Park, where in his one season he failed to hit the target. Moved to Blackburn and scored on his debut!
17. RICHARD WRIGHT
Made just 12 league appearances for the Gunners, he faired no better at West Ham under Alan Curbishley where he made three Carling Cup appearances before moving to Southampton after a falling out.
18. HENRI LANSBURY
An Arsenal trainee, his chances were limited for the Gunners and found himself in plenty of loan moves, including one to West Ham during their promotion winning season under Sam Allardyce. His most memorable moment came at Blackpool where he went in goal after Rob Green was sent off and made some fine saves in a 4-1 win.
19. MANUEL ALMUNIA
Came in as an emergency keeper for West Ham when Rob Green had an op. Made just four appearances, but he certainly had a decent career at Arsenal, making over 100 appearances.
20. CARL JENKINSON
Still a youngster but he has been through the wars in terms of injury. Made a good impression on loan at West Ham, but when he returned the following season, he struggled, before getting injured. Working his way back at The Emirates.
21. KABA DIAWARA
Actually made 12 appearances for Arsenal in 1999, the French striker played 11 times for the Hammers, failing to hit the target.
22. MAROUANE CHAMAKH
The Frenchman made his name at Bordeaux before moving to Arsenal where he never quite fulfilled his potential. Went on loan to West Ham in 2013 where he was pretty awful.
23. DAVID BENTLEY
Made just one appearance for Arsenal and was pretty inept in his loan spell at West Ham in 2011.
24. JEREMIE ALIADIERE
Similar to Chamakh, he never really made it at Arsenal, scoring one goal, while the least said about his time at West Ham the better. One word, awful!
