It looks like being anything but a happy Easter for Leyton Orient, as their relegation out of the Football League can be confirmed this weekend.

Omer Riza’s side travel to Luton on Good Friday, before hosting Hartlepool at Brisbane Road on Bank Holiday Monday, with their demotion to the non-league scene imminent.

A 3-0 defeat at Cambridge United, their ninth loss in 10 outings, came after Riza was forced to field an extremely young starting XI and left the east London club 10 points adrift of safety with five matches remaining, following news that players and staff not receiving their salaries for March.

Dagenham & Redbridge, meanwhile, gave their National League promotion hopes a shot in the arm with a 4-1 win at Macclesfield and visit Boreham Wood, before hosting Sutton at Victoria Road.

John Still’s men are currently in fourth place and four points above Dover, who lie just outside the promotion play-off places but have a game hand.

Premier League West Ham United make the long trip to bottom club Sunderland having eased the nerves at London Stadium with a battling 1-0 win over Swansea last weekend.

Following a 3-0 midweek loss at Arsenal, Chiekhou Kouyate’s wonder goal earned three valuable points against the Swans that left Slaven Bilic’s men feeling slightly more commfortable at being eight points above the drop zone in 14th place with six games remaining.

Further down the football pyramid, Barking clinched the Essex Senior League title with a 5-0 win at Burnham Ramblers and are planning for their return to the Ryman (Isthmian) League.

Correspondents Dave Evans, George Sessions and Ned Keating share their thoughts in our latest podcast presented by Archant’s digital specialist project manager Matt Withers.
