Essex Under-13 Girls
Great Danes were crowned county champions after beating Leigh.
The girls, who train at Beckett Keys School, Brentwood every Thursday, have performed superbly all season to remain unbeaten with one game left and scored 74 goals in the league, while only conceding eight.
In addition to their league success, the girls have also successfully made it to the cup final, where they will once again play old adversaries West Ham United.
Chairman Mike Jackson said: “Congratulations to all of the girls in our under-13 team and team manager Andrew Mitchell.
“The team are unbeaten this season, and have one league game left to be considered an ‘Invincible’ team.
“This is a terrific achievement for any team, but especially so considering the team are up against sides like West Ham United who have trials for all of their players.”
Mitchell added: “We signed two top players, Sadie Kirrane and Isabel Plunkett, this season who strengthened our squad.
“Our forwards Sophie Nyiro and Sophie Clark have scored 75 league and cup goals between them.
“Midfielders Sophia McCarthy, Katie Mitchell, Natasha Dowie, Lucy Edmeades, Isabel Plunkett and Ellie Kiff have scored 39 goals between them.
“And defenders Niamh Hayes, Sadie Kirrane and Captain Olivia Gibbons are so solid at the back that with the safe hands of goalkeeper Grace Staunton they have only let in eight goals which is the best record in the county.
“I am so proud to manage this team, the commitment from my squad is extraordinary and they are such a talented, hardworking team.
“They deserve their glory. Beating West Ham 2-0 at home in February was tough, but when we held them to a 1-1 draw away I had a feeling we were going to win the league.
“We still needed to beat Leigh who have many county players. West Ham have won the league for the last three seasons so it is wonderful to see a local team win for a change. All we need to do now is win the double to make club history.”
