Captain Barry hails Boro’s four wins in six days
Romford captain Jack Barry was delighted to reflect on a ‘fantastic week’ after helping his side beat Ryman One North leaders VCD Athletic last night.
Barry and Eddie Hart netted in a 2-0 success at Ship Lane to make it four wins in six days, following success against Waltham Abbey, Wroxham and Soham Town.
And Barry said: “We couldn’t ask for a better week could we?
“Beating the top two teams in the same week, it has just been a fantastic week for us.
“Nobody would have predicted us to beat Soham and VCD in the same week.
“All the boys are on cloud nine at the minute. We have some momentum building and I don’t think teams would like to play us at the minute.
But we still have to keep our feet on the ground and just keep doing what we are doing, because it’s working!”
Barry opened the scoring midway through the first half, with a sidefooted finish from a corner.
And he admitted it was a relief to see the ball hit the back of the net, adding: “It was good to finally be back on the scoresheet and I was pleased with the goal.
“I gave Clayton a shout and I think he got a flick on it and it fell straight to me. The ball took a bounce but it took so long to come down I had to just place it in the top corner!”
Victory took Romford to 50 points for the season and they now have Sudbury in their sights on Saturday.
Barry sees no reason why they cannot keep their winning streak going and paid tribute to manager Paul Martin and assistant Mark Lord, adding: “All the boys have worked hard for these results and we have deserved these wins.
“It’s not like we have been lucky and scraped the win because we haven’t. Everyone worked hard for each other and it paid off but I have to praise Magic and Lordy for their tactics.
“They got it spot on with them. We stopped them playing their free-flowing football that they like to play and made them make passes they didn’t want to. On the night we got it just right.”
