Two late goals got Romford quickly back to winning ways at Leslie Field.

Beaten at Heybridge in midweek, after letting a half-time lead slip, Boro enjoyed lots of possession in the opening period against Ramblers.

Paul Clayton was too high on 21 minutes and Matt Toms saw his effort turned over the crossbar from Reece Tranter’s free-kick on the half hour.

But boss Paul Martin was forced into a change soon after as Tranter strained a hamstring and Nick Reynolds was summoned from the substitutes’ bench.

Former Romford striker Billy Hunt went close to breaking the deadlock for the home side as his free-kick came back off the crossbar just before half time.

The visitors made a bright start to the second half, with Tom Richardson pulled a shot wide on 53 minutes.

Daniel Jones teed up Reynolds moments later, but the striker snatched at the chance, and Boro had penalty appeals waved away on the hour when Richardson went down in the box.

Burnham went close again on 77 minutes, with a header that went wide, and then struck a post three minutes later.

But Romford made the most of their reprieve when Reynolds won a corner, which was half-cleared to George Woodward and he picked out Jones, who chested the ball down for Clayton to volley home.

Boro doubled their tally on 84 minutes when Jamie Dicks found Richardson on the right and his hard cross was bundle home by Reynolds.

The home side had late penalty claims waved away as Boro moved up to 15th place in the table, ahead of their trip to Brentwood on Tuesday.
