It proved to be a bad night for Romford as they were convincingly beat by Cheshunt at Ship Lane. as Josh Cooper was the star of the show for the Ambers.

The midfielder struck four of the six goals past Boro goalkeeper Aaron Omand and though skipper Jack Barry and Tom Richardson did net for Paul Martin’s side they were a mere consolation.

Jamie Dicks was cautioned for the host on the quarter of an hour mark, and Cheshunt took the lead two minutes later through Tunde Adewunmi.

The visitors went on to double their advantage on 32 minutes as Cooper scored his first of the night and that was how it remained at the break.

But only two minutes of the second half had passed when Cooper doubled his tally and left Romford with a mountain to climb.

Ted Llewellyn inflicted further woe on the hosts with a fourth on 59 minutes, though Barry did reduce the arrears on 63 minutes.

Romford boss Paul Martin made three changes in quick succession as Barry, Paul Clayton and Reece Tranter were replaced by Joe Oates, Matt Toms and Eddie Hart respectively.

But that did little to stop the slide as Cooper restored the four-goal cushion to complete his hat-trick, and though Tom Richardson reduced the deficit, Cooper scored his fourth, and final 10 minutes from time.

Boro will hope to bounce back when they host Heybridge Swifts on Saturday.
