Ryman One North preview: Romford v Erith & Belvedere

Erith & Belvedere may have been thumped 10-1 against Thurrock a few weeks back at Ship Lane, but Romford boss Paul Martin believes that was just a freak result as they prepare to face the Deres tonight.

The Kent side make the return journey hoping to avenge that loss from their last visit to Essex, but go into the game on the back of some much-improved results.

They beat play-off chasing Heybridge Swifts 3-2 last Saturday before a solid 1-1 draw with fellow Kent side Chatham Town on Tuesday.

And though Boro may have the fresher legs, Martin knows his side cannot take anything for granted.

“All credit to Erith & Belvedere they have bounced back from that 10-1 loss to Thurrock,” said Martin.

“They lost a couple more after that but they got a great win against Heybridge and followed that up with a point against Chatham.

“In that respect they might have a few more heavy legs than us but we go into the game with a good bit of form and hopefully that will continue.”

Boro have secured 13 points out of a possible 18 going into the match, as well as three clean sheets from their four games.

And while Martin will make wholesale changes from the goalless draw at Witham on Saturday such are his options, he remains confident whatever side he puts out can win the game.

“We are one of the most in-form sides at the moment and that has to be a positive,” he added.

“We’ll make the changes again but whatever team I put out is strong enough to get the result. It’s a big squad but it’s a good one as well.”

Martin and his squad were also sad to hear the loss of supporter Jeanie Jones who passed away recently.

Her partner David Williamson, a long-term supporter of Boro died some years ago, and Jeanie attend as many games as possible after his passing.

Boro will hold a minute’s silence at tonight’s game in memory of her.
