Romford boss Paul Martin has some decisions to make as he considers moving on to pastures new.

The Boro chief has continually masterminded improvement from his charges, who finished 11th with a new high points tally of 68 in Ryman One North this season.

And while assistant Mark Lord has called it quits after 11 years in the role, Martin is also considering whether to accept another job offer from elsewhere and has set the deadline of May 10 – Boro’s presentation night – to make his mind up.

“There is an offer on the table,” said Martin. “I have now got to consider my options. I’ll have a sit down and think and see what’s best for me, but I’ll make my decision and announce it at the presentation night.

“I’ve had five great years in this league now and I’ve got the experience. It will be hard to leave Romford and part of me is thinking ‘do I give it another season and see if we get anywhere with this new stadium?’

“But equally another part is saying ‘do I go for a new challenge?’ I’m probably about 60:40 now in favour of staying, but I’ll take my time and think about what’s best.”

Martin predicted his side could be on the end of a convincing defeat if they didn’t play to their best against VCD Athletic.

And that was what Boro got as the Kent side put them to the sword in a convincing 6-0 win to clinch the title.

“It was always going to be tough and though VCD played some good football we never really got started and that’s disappointing,” said Martin.

“I knew we could be in for a beating if we didn’t turn up and I was proved to be right in the end.”

Although proud of the club’s achievements this season, Martin looked back at what might have been for his side, adding: “It’s been
a good year with another improvement on the points tally, but I look back at
results and think we could have got to seventh.

“We were only nine points off and there must be at least 11 games where we have thrown points away. The season ended disappointing, but these players go out there and give me 100 per cent each week and I cannot complain.

“I see players at other clubs pick and choose what games they want to perform well in, but you won’t get that from this bunch. They will go out and try their hardest no matter what pitch you’re on or what night of the week it is.”

There have been plenty of highlights over the season for the Boro boss, with wins in the home fixture against VCD and one over Aveley right up there.

But Martin was chuffed with a double over landlords Thurrock, in particular the ‘away’ game on April 1. He said: “On a personal note it was nice to beat Thurrock and that’s no disrespect to them and the chairman Tommy South, because I get on really well with them.

“That was a year on from the loss of my grandad. I asked the boys to go out and do it for me and they did. Any win puts a smile on my face, but the wins over
Needham Market, VCD and Aveley were good as well.”
