Barry: It’s sickening to lose late on again

Romford captain Jack Barry says his side have to cut out the mistakes against Ryman One North new boys Great Wakering Rovers today.

Boro suffered more late heartbreak on the road at the weekend, conceding two late goals to lose 2-1 at Maldon after suffering a similar fate at Waltham Abbey a week earlier.

And Barry admits Paul Martin’s men have to learn from their errors, saying: “We are only five games in and it’s twice now that we have been 1-0 up away from home and gone on to lose the game from two quick goals in the dying moments.

“We have to learn to shut games out and it’s mistakes that have been costing us. We conceded in the 87th and 90th minute and that’s sickening, knowing we threw that game away like that.”

Boro have beaten Burnham (4-0) and Dereham (4-2) at Ship Lane this season and will be looking to make it a hat-trick of home wins against a Rovers side, who find themselves bottom of the table without a point after five successive losses.

Barry added: “We have a game now against Great Wakering and they are a newly promoted side who will be looking to get their first win in the league.

“We have to play our game, not make individual mistakes and we will win, but it’s going to be important to get the three points and then hopefully start putting a run of wins together.”

*Hornchurch make the short trip to Aveley today to take on Grays in the Ryman Premier Division.
Urchins are still looking for their first win of the season, following a 2-1 defeat at Leatherhead at the weekend.

And they face a Grays side who are fresh from celebrating a 4-0 victory at basement boys Hampton & Richmond Borough, their first of the campaign.
