Boro won 3-0 at home to Great Wakering Rovers on the opening day of season last Saturday

Paul Martin admits Romford face a tough challenge in the Bostik North on Saturday when they visit Bury Town.

Boro hit the road for the first time this term, but do so chasing consecutive wins after beating Great Wakering Rovers 3-0 at home on the opening day last weekend.

It was a fine start to the campaign for the Rookery Hill club and while Martin would love another success on Saturday, he knows the Blues will provide a difficult challenge.

“Bury will enjoy home advantage on Saturday and they will have a good crowd cheering them on,” said the Romford boss.

“We’re without Jamie Marsh so someone else will have a chance on Saturday, but hopefully they can take it.

“Bury will be a completely different challenge to Great Wakering and they haven’t had to do much rebuilding to their squad over the summer.

“We seem to always get them early in the season, but we tend to do well in those games and hopefully that continues on Saturday.”

The cornerstone for any Romford success at Bury could be a strong defensive display, like they managed against Great Wakering last week.

Boro began their campaign with not just three points, but a shutout too — something Martin was pleased to record early on after a long wait for one last term.

“We went 37 league games without a clean sheet before getting our first last season, so it’s good that we haven’t had to wait that long this time,” he added.

“The clean sheet will be a great confidence boost for the whole team going forward.

“There are things that we need to keep working on in training, and we need to remember to keep our discipline too, but getting an early clean sheet bodes well.”

Martin also expressed pleasure with new signing Roddy Lemba, who managed a goal and an assist on his debut last weekend.

“Roddy played really well for us on Saturday. It was a tight call between him and Max Bolton o start, but we felt the formation suited Roddy more and it was a great debut,” he said.

Martin will hope Lemba can impress for Romford again at Bury on Saturday.
