Ryman Premier: Hampton & Richmond Borough 1 AFC Hornchurch 1

The goals continue to come for George Purcell and this may be an important one as his strike five minutes from time ensured a point for the Urchins at Hampton & Richmond

It was a quiet start to the match, with neither side creating too many chances until the closing stages of the opening half.

The hosts saw one effort fly well over the bar, before a play through from Tambeson Eyong was played back to Purcell who shot wide of the target.

Purcell then tried a delicate lob five minutes before the break over home goalkeeper Rodney Chiweshe, but it drifted just wide.

Stefan Payne went in the book late in the half, and he fired into the side netting in stoppage time.

But just six minutes of the second period had gone when the hosts had the lead as Roberts’ drilled free-kick found a way past Inigo Echepare

Jimmy McFarlane’s began to pick up the bookings as both Spencer and Phillips went in the book inside three minutes.

Hampton spurned a great chance after some poor Urchins defending and McFarlane brought on Carl Rook and Martin Tuohy as they went in search of a goal.

Purcell was presented with another opportunity but fluffed his shot, before Chris Bourne fired over. Bourne turned provider for Phil Starkey, but he shot over the bar.

The visitors were piling on the pressure and Payne went close before Purcell found the net as his turn and shot finds its way past Chiweshe.

No more action was to follow and Hornchurch will be pleased to have at least ended the match on a high, going into tomorrow’s trip to Harrow Borough.

Hornchurch: Echepare, Rainford, Spencer (Bourne 62), Styles, Curley, Eyong (Rook 77), Starkey, Payne, Purcell, Phillips (Tuohy 73)

Unused substitutes: Bremner, Coyne.
