Funeral details for the late Peter Butcher, secretary of Hornchurch and well known throughout non-league football circles, have been announced.

A service will take place at Upminster Crematorium, Ockenden Road, RM14 2UY on Monday June 4 at 12.40pm, followed by refreshments back at the club in Bridge Avenue.

Former Recorder sports editor Butcher passed away suddenly earlier this month, shortly after seeing Urchins win the Bostik North title and promotion, and the shock news prompted a flood of tributes from clubs around the country.

He was 67 years old and had served both the Isthmian and Essex Senior Leagues in recent years.

Rather than send flowers to the funeral, Peter’s nearest and dearest would rather that charity donations were made in his memory instead.

Anyone wanting to donate should pay into the following account (81941460), sort code 30-92-13.
