Boss delighted with display at Lewes
Hornchurch boss Jimmy McFarlane hailed his side after their 5-1 win at Ryman Premier Division rivals Lewes last night.
Tambeson Eyong gave Urchins an early lead, before in-form strikers Stefan Payne and George Purcell added braces in a superb all-round display.
And McFarlane felt it was one of their best displays of the whole season, saying: “We played some lovely football, with pace and power, and it was an all-round performance.
“We’ve played like that before, but only for 45 minutes. We were at it for 90 minutes this time and it was probably our best display since we beat Wealdstone 6-1 in the FA Cup.
“We had a few players suffer a dip in form at the same time, but I told them they’ve got to start believing. I believe in them. Now we’re brimming with confidence.
“Our strikers were unplayable at times, all three of them. Carl (Rook) takes a lot of attention away from Stef and George. He takes the knocks for them, but he doesn’t mind. He’s a good ally for them.”
Hornchurch are set to visit fellow promotion hopefuls Kingstonian on Saturday, before hosting Cray Wanderers at Bridge Avenue on Tuesday.
