Paul Martin is staying on as manager of Romford – and Paul Clayton is delighted.

The Boro boss had been considering his future in recent weeks, having had offers to manage elsewhere.

But Martin’s decision to remain at the club was revealed at their annual presentation evening at the Ford Sports & Social Club in Newbury Park last night.

Clayton, the club’s record appearance holder, has been promoted to assistant manager alongside Alex Goldstone following the retirement of Mark Lord.

And he is relishing the chance to try and help Boro improve on their fine recent Ryman One North campaign, when they collected a best-yet haul of 68 points.

Clayton said: “Magic has been very loyal to the club and we both agreed it didn’t seem right to walk away. It’s great he is going to stay.

“It’s a big loss losing Mark Lord, but it’s opened up the door for me and Alex. I’m really looking forward to the challenge.”

Abs Seymour walked off with the Supporters’ and Players’ Player of the Year awards, following a string of combative displays in midfield, and Scott Truman claimed the Managers’ award after a series of composed performances in defence.

Clayton, who is closing in on 400 appeaances in gold and blue, had won the Player of the Year honours in 2012/13 and has no intention of hanging up his boots just yet.

But he looking to make his mark in his new role next season, adding: “I’m still going to be playing as much as I can, but I’ve got some ideas to hopefully keep the squad together and challenge for the play-offs.”

*Romford will not field a reserve team during the 2014/15 season, due to financial reasons.
