Ryman Premier: Lewes 1 Hornchurch 5

Hornchurch gave their promotion push a big shot in the arm with a five-star show in Sussex last night.

Having beaten Thamesmead at Bridge Avenue on Saturday, Uchins travelled to the Dripping Pan looking to maintain their winning form.

And they never looked back after taking a third-minute lead through Tambeson Eyong.

Carl Rook touched the ball through to Eyong, who fired home a superb left-footed drive to lift the visitors and they doubled their lead on the quarter-hour mark when Eyong was pulled down in the box and George Purcell converted the spot-kick.

Urchins went 3-0 up on 27 minutes when Purcell turned provider, breaking clear and teeing up strike partner Stefan Payne to slot past Rikki Banks.

Inigo Echepare denied the hosts a reply before the break with a fine save, as Luke Blewden headed over.

But Lewes found the net on 53 minutes through Blewden and enjoyed a spell of pressure, testing the Hornchurch defence.

Urchins restored their three-goal cushion when Joey May’s perfect pass allowed Payne to fire across Banks for his second goal of the night on the hour.

And they went 5-1 up on 77 minutes when Purcell pounced on a mistake in the Lewes defence and thumped his shot past Banks.

Urchins travel to Kingstonian on Saturday, before hosting Cray next Tuesday.

Hornchurch: Echepare, Rainford, starkey, Styles, Hayles, Curley, Eyong, May, Payne (Coyne 76), Purcell (Bremner 81), Rook. Unused subs: Lechmere, Folkes.
