Romford captain reflects on stalemate

Romford captain Jack Barry admitted to a sense of deja vu after his side’s goalless draw with Ryman One North rivals Maldon.

Boro had been forced to settle for a point at Witham, who had a player sent off before Paul Clayton missed a penalty.

And it was a similar story at Ship Lane at the weekend as Paul Martin’s men failed to find the net again.

Barry said: ”The Maldon game was near enough identical to last Saturday’s game against Witham, with Maldon going down to 10 men and us not taking advantage of the extra man and causing them any real problems.

“We had plenty of possession, which was going to be a given with them down to 10 men, but it was what we did with the ball.

“I’m afraid we didn’t create enough to get that important goal we needed and it was two points dropped.”

Boro extended their unbeaten run to five matches, nonetheless, and could climb up to 13th place with victory over Heybridge Swifts at Scraley Road tomorrow.

Heybridge saw their home game against Brentwood fall victim to a waterlogged pitch at the weekend, but Barry is keen to get back out there.

He added: “I’m really looking forward to the Heybridge game, as are all the boys, because we all want to make up for the result against Maldon.

“I know the game was postponed on Saturday due to a waterlogged pitch and since then we have had some rain, so fingers crossed their pitch is ok and playable.

“They usually have a nice surface over there so lets hope we can get the game on and I’m sure it will be a good game.”
