The 48-year-old hailed the potential of Dan Happe and revealed Josh Coulson is close to signing a permanent deal with the O’s

Leyton Orient head coach Justin Edinburgh praised his players after earning a fourth consecutive victory in all competitions this afternoon by beating Dagenham & Redbridge 2-0 at Brisbane Road.

The visitors had the better of the play during the opening 45 in E10, but failed to test Dean Brill with the O’s back line working hard.

And after the restart it was mostly all Orient with Josh Coulson heading home the opener in the 49th minute before Macauley Bonne scored another 10 minutes later.

Edinburgh said: “I’m delighted with the win. We had to be very resolute and credit to Dagenham because they started very fast, but we were efficient in what we needed to do.

“We defended our area very well and grew into the game and half time probably came a little bit too quick for us because we were just getting momentum.

“But give credit to the players because they picked it up again for the second half and went on to win the game.”

There were a number of good performances from the Orient team throughout with Alex Lawless and Craig Clay both excellent, in particular in the second half.

Dan Happe, coming in for his first start since December 9, was assured at the back and shone alongside Coulson.

The teenager only started because Bondz N’Gala’s loan from Dagenham expired, but didn’t let the side down.

“Dan came in and was excellent. He looked assured and looked a real man, so I think he is going to be a hell of a player,” said Edinburgh.

“He is 6 ft 4 and is still growing. He looked comfortable on the ball and is mobile, so the boy has a big future and he was very good.

“It helps being alongside Josh Coulson because Josh is very vocal and an organiser and that certainly helped.”

Edinburgh went on to provide an update on the negotiations between Cambridge United and the O’s over the services of the 28-year-old, who is on-loan from the League Two club until January 28.

“Josh is a big player for us and there is no doubt his return has coincided with some clean sheets. He has two goals in three games now as well and that’s an added bonus,” said the Orient head coach.

“I think the negotiations are already complete and Josh is committed to the club and wants to do that, so I don’t envisage there being any problems.”

After a second win over Dagenham this season, it seems the O’s faithful now have another thing to celebrate – Coulson potentially penning a permanent deal with Orient in the New Year. Things are looking promising at Brisbane Road again.
