Latest news from the Essex FA

Ahead of a scheduled winter break, the draws for the quarter-finals of four Essex FA County Cup competitions were made this week, including the Essex Sunday Premier Cup and Essex Saturday Veterans Cup.

In the Sunday Premier Cup, 2015/16 finalists Global are seeking to go one better than last term, but have been handed a tough assignment at home to 2009/10 winners Heybridge Social.

Global have beaten Harberts, Sanders Cross United and Old Town Athletic to reach the last eight and set up a tie against the Pope & Smith Chelmsford Sunday League outfit.

Maldon & Tiptree Athletic lead the Pope & Smith Premier Division with a 100 per cent record and have also made the quarter-finals of the competition, where they travel to Flag, who are competing in the Colchester & District Sunday League for the first time this term.

Upshire, the 2014/15 winners, had an impressive 4-1 win at Atletico Trotters in the third round and their prize is a short trip to Parsloe Athletic - twice finalists in the Sunday Junior Cup - who knocked out 2013/14 champions Priory Sports by the odd goal in seven.

Witham United against Attero completes the draw.

Hutton Old Boys have won the Saturday Veterans Cup for the past three seasons and, if they can overcome Catholic United in the third round this year, they face a trip to White Ensign.

They are currently second in the Greene King Essex Veterans League Premier Division, while Ensign have won all of their Division One games in the current campaign.

Only one of the three teams beaten by Hutton in those finals are still in the 2016/17 competition and Little Thurrock Dynamos will host Rowhedge, the one remaining North Essex Veterans League club in the draw.

Both teams currently sit at the top of their tables, with Rowhedge easing past Pavilion United in the last round.

West Essex have been handed a home draw against the winners of the outstanding tie between Debden Sports Club and Harold Wood Athletic, whilet the last eight is rounded off with a clash between Manford Way and Paringdon.

Two youth competition draws were also made, with last year’s Essex Under-12 Cup finalists EMH Falcons still going strong in the Essex Cordell Under-13 Cup this term.

The Hornchurch youngsters face an away game in their quarter-finals against Braintree Town of the Eastern Junior Alliance, who saw off fellow EJA team Concord Rangers in the fourth round.

The 2013/14 winners, Hornchurch, have a proud County Cup tradition, winning two youth competitions last season, and their bid for Under-13 glory continues with a home encounter against Shield Academy (Blues) of the Echo Junior League.

Sumners Youth (Cobras) had a thrilling 5-3 triumph over Elmden Rovers in the last 16 and welcome Brentwood Town (Alliance) in the quarter-finals, while Thurrock (EJA) will do battle with Upminster Park Rovers (Greens).

Meanwhile, in this year’s Under-12 Cup quarter-finals, there is an all-Echo Junior League tie between ‘A’ Division Collier Row Youth (Reds) and Premier Division side Hornchurch Urchins Youth (Reds).

Springfield (Reds) against Great Danes (Lions) is an all-Chelmsford Youth League fixture in the last eight.

County Park are awaiting the winners of this Sunday’s game between Great Wakering Colts (Whites) and Leigh Ramblers (Blues), while the line-up is completed by a tantalising tie between Sumners Youth (Cobras) and Canvey Island (Whites).
