Daggers have completed the signing of striker Christian Doidge on a two-year deal for an undisclosed fee, subject to international clearance.

Doidge had a successful trial with the club, scoring against both Billericay Town and a Spurs XI in pre-season.

Daggers had hoped a deal would be agreed last week, but talks initially broke down. However, both clubs managed to strike a deal for the 21-year-old.

However, due to the club still seeking international clearance, Doidge will not be able to make for the Daggers debut at Burton Albion tomorrow, and whether it comes through in time for Tuesday’s trip to Hartlepool United remains to be seen.

A Carmarthen Town statement read: “Carmarthen Town forward Christian Doidge, 21, has completed his transfer to Football League Two side Dagenham & Redbridge. Following a successful trial period at the East London club Doidge put pen to paper late last night. Both clubs have agreed that the transfer fee will remain undisclosed.”

The striker scored 19 goals for Carmarthen Town during his time with the Welsh club, 17 of which came last season.

The 6 foot 2 inch striker had received an offer from Conference Premier side Bristol Rovers, the club he was released from as a youngster, but opted to pursue his chance in the Football League at Victoria Road.

Bristol Rovers boss Darrell Clarke said: “The striker I was hoping to bring here has opted to go to Dagenham & Redbridge and the loan player I was hoping to bring in has proved to be too expensive, so it’s back to the drawing board.”
