Boro can move to within five points of magical 50 mark by beating Norwich United this weekend

Romford boss Paul Martin insists there is still some way to go before his side can be guaranteed of their place in the Ryman North next season.

Boro travel to Norwich United this weekend, where a win would take them to within five points of the magical 50 mark.

The Ship Lane club could also be 14 points clear of the relegation zone come the end of the weekend should other results go their way.

But Martin is still issuing a note of caution despite Romford appearing well on their way to staying in the division.

He said: “No team can say they are safe until mathematically they are this season.

“There is no time to rest and we know we have to keep winning matches if we want to stay up.

“Wroxham (who are 23rd) have got a new boss, so that could be the boost they need.

“We’re not in bad form, but we need to keep plugging away and have to keep doing our job.”

Romford face a 240-mile round trip to face Norwich at Plantation Park this weekend, but Martin hopes his side are toasting a victory on the way home.

“Going to the teams in Norfolk and Suffolk, they are always hard places to go and sitting on a coach for two-and-a-half hours after a loss is a lot tougher than after a win,” he added.

Romford beat the Planters 3-0 back in October, but Martin says that counts for little this time, adding: “It was a while ago and squads change a lot, even in a short space of time.

“They’ve recently brought in a striker who scores a lot of goals against, so we’ll have to work out a plan to keep him quiet.

“Even then, there are still others you have to worry about. You only have to look at the Cheshunt game, we kept Jason Hallett quiet and still conceded three.”
