Dagenham & Redbridge winger Fejiri Okenabirhie is pleased to be fit and back in the starting line-up.
The former Stevenage attacker has started the last two matches against Ebbsfleet United and more recently their 0-0 draw against local rivals Leyton Orient on New Year’s Day.
The 21-year-old missed eight games with injury and is hoping to build up his fitness in the coming weeks.
“I had an injury, so I’ve been out for about six weeks and I’m just glad to be back fit and hopefully I can build my fitness up in the next few games and hopefully push on for the rest of the season,” he said.
The England C squad member believes his side played well against the O’s on Monday and hopes they can build on it.
“I thought we played well, it was a tough game and a battle, as both teams were obviously fighting hard for the points, but in the end I think we were the ones with the ascendancy and unfortunately we just couldn’t get it,” he added.
“I think we’ve just got to build on that performance now and take it into the next game.”
Okenabirhie went so close in the final minute as Morgan Ferrier got away from Dan Happe and cut back for the winger, but he blasted over from 12 yards.
“The ball got cut back and obviously I was running hard to get into the box and get to the cross, but it has cut back and I just couldn’t sort my feet out quick enough,” he said.
“I’m gutted I couldn’t score the goal, but I just need to dust myself down for the next game.”
Daggers are now winless in five games after crashing out of the FA Trophy to Hereford, before falling to defeats against Eastleigh and Leyton Orient and then drawing against Ebbsfleet United and the O’s.
“With regards to performances in the last few games I think we’ve picked up, so I think we’ve just got to build on it and I don’t think we’re far from that last bit or few things that is going to get us the win,” added Okenabirhie.
“We’re all desperate to get a win, I think we’re putting in the performances and doing the right things, so we just need to keep doing that and it will come.”
Dagenham & Redbridge now face two home games against Hartlepool United on Saturday (3pm) and Boreham Wood on Tuesday (7.45pm) as they look to get their season back on track.
