Fejiri Okenabirhie keen to keep focus on Dagenham & Redbridge, not rivals, in National League title race

Daggers could go level on points with leaders Lincoln City with a win against Guiseley

Winger Fejiri Okenabirhie says it does not matter if Dagenham & Redbridge are the hunters or the hunted in the race for the National League title.

After Saturday’s 4-1 success at Southport, in which Okenabirhie scored one and created another, Daggers remain just three points adrift of leaders Lincoln City.

With the Imps in FA Cup action at Burnley on Saturday, Daggers have the chance to go joint top with a win at home to Guiseley.

But Okenabirhie insists that even if the Essex club do go level on points with City, it will not alter their mindset in their bid for the title.

“It’s just important we focus on ourselves really, take each game as it comes and try to win it,” said the former Harrow Borough man.

“Whatever happens at the end of the season, we will know we have done the best we can.”

Success at Southport was the fifth in a row for Daggers as they maintained their perfect record in 2017.

Including Saturday’s clash with Guiseley, Daggers’ next three league games are all at home as they face both Bromley and Maidstone United at Victoria ROad before the end of the month.

And with that in mind, Okenabirhie is confident the Essex club’s hot streak can continue for some time yet.

“We’re on a good run at an important part of the season, so we just want to keep that run going and win every game,” he added.

“We need to keep doing what we did at Southport, take it into the Guiseley match, work hard in training and go again.”
