Essex club came up short against Welsh club at Victoria Road on Saturday

Wrexham manager Sam Ricketts believes Dagenham & Redbridge made his side work hard for their 2-1 victory in the Vanarama National League, despite the gulf between the sides in the table.

Heading into Saturday’s game at Victoria Road, Daggers were in the relegation zone while the Dragons were in the play-off places.

The game looked to be going to form in the 44th minute when Luke Young put the Welsh club ahead, only for the visitors to concede a calamitous own goal through Brad Walker a minute later.

Ricketts’ men, however, regained their lead midway through the second half when Luke Summerfield scored from the spot after Lamar Reynolds fouled Kevin Robets in the box.

“It was a real tough game and regardless of what is going on, Dagenham made it really hard for us, pushing us and asking us questions,” said Ricketts.

“We had to fight, we had to battle and scrap, but we came away with the victory.

“We could have scored a few more goals, but it was never going to be a comfortable game for us.”
