National League: Aldershot Town 2 Dagenham & Redbridge 1

Dagenham & Redbridge fell short and suffered a 2-1 defeat to Aldershot Town despite a late fightback at The Electrical Services Stadium.

The Daggers remain in the bottom four after four games as they still search for their first victory of the new season after falling 2-0 behind thanks to goals from Scott Rendell and Shamir Fenelon before Chike Kandi gave them some hope as he clawed one back late on.

Manager Peter Taylor made four changes to the side that drew 1-1 with Maidenhead United on Saturday by bringing in new signing Alexander McQueen, Tomi Adeloye, Paul Phipps and Luke Pennell.

The four came in to replace Chike Kandi, Lamar Reynolds, Ollie Harfield and Gavin Hoyte, who all dropped to the bench.

However, Aldershot captain Rendell got his side off to a dream start as he found the net after a tussle in the box in the second minute of the match.

The visitors almost found themselves level six minutes later when new signing Tomi Adeloye picked up a loose ball and drove towards goal putting Matt Robinson through, but the midfielder couldn’t convert.

The Shots soon started dominating the game with chance after chance and they went close in the 20th minute when striker Dan Holman broke into the box, beat his marker, but fired a shot wide of the post.

Holman then had another golden chance five minutes later when he let fly from 40 yards and only narrowly missed the goal.

The Daggers have started the second half brightly with multiple attacks into the Shots box.

But it was the hosts who made the most of their chances as they doubled their lead thanks to Fenelon blasted the ball past goalkeeper Elliott Justham in the 54th minute to make it 2-0.

Substitute Chike Kandi clawed one back after just 11 minutes of being on the pitch as he fired the ball into the net from the back post after a dangerous ball into the box from the left to make it 2-1.

Dagenham then put the pressure on and in the 80th minute they went close to an equaliser when a dangerous cross from Elliot Romain fizzled across the box just missing the outstretched leg of Tomi Adeloye.

Three minutes later Kandi bombed down the right again, put a dangerous ball in and a Shots defender almost put the ball into his own net.

Taylor’s side pushed for an equaliser late on but failed to find the net and fell to a third defeat in four.

Aldershot Town: Mannion, Kinsella, Fowler (McDonnell 28), Fenelon (Rowe 70), Howell, Rendell, Wanadio (Berkeley-Agyepong 56), Bernard, Lelan, Booty, Holman.
