Dagenham & Redbridge defender Jack Connors will get a chance to impress Republic of Irleand under-21 boss Noel King after being called up for the final European Championship qualifier against Germany next Friday, September 5.
Connors made his international bow back in May when featuring for the under-21s in their friendly against the Qatar Olympic squad and with King looking to the future, the 19-year-old, who qualifies to play through his father, could represent his country once again against the next crop off the German production line.
“We’ve gone with the squad for the next campaign,” said King. “We can’t go any further with the older players so the maximum benefit is to bring in the younger lads.
“I’m very thankful to the players who played in the last campaign but in terms of development for the future the best thing is to look to younger players.”
The Republic of Ireland U-21s are currently fourth in Group Six of Uefa European U-21 qualifying going into the final fixture in the campaign next Friday.
Connors’ call-up means he will miss the Daggers League Two match at home to Northampton Town on Saturday, September 6.
Meanwhile, Sean Shields has been placed on standby for Northern Ireland under-21s for their qualifier against Serbia on September 9.
The winger is currently out on loan with Conference South side St Albans City.
