Forward netted winner for Essex club in 1-0 win at home to Braintree Town on Tuesday

Dagenham & Redbridge forward Chike Kandi has called on the side to start stringing results together ahead of their trip to Barrow in the Vanarama National League on Saturday.

The Essex club make the long trip north to Holker Street having gone unbeaten in their last two league games — by far their best run of the season to date.

Kandi scored the winner on Tuesday night with a crucial penalty late on in a 1-0 win at home to Braintree Town, which followed a goalless draw with Salford City at Victoria Road last weekend.

Those results have lifted Peter Taylor’s men off the bottom of the table, but Kandi knows Daggers must now continue to add to their tally in the coming weeks.

“We need to take the win into Saturday. Personally and as a team, we’ve shown we’ve got the performances and we’ve got the goals, but we just need to win games,” said the 22-year-old.

“If we go on a little run, there’s no telling where we can go. The momentum is good. Barrow is always a tough game because it’s a long journey, but we will go there and take it to them.

“It would be pretty incredible to say we’ve gone a third game unbeaten after Saturday.”

The success at home to Braintree in midweek saw Daggers collect a first league victory of the season at the ninth attempt. Of their previous eight league games, Daggers had drawn two and been beaten in the other six.

All six of those defeats, though, were only by a solitary goal, which Kandi believes made them all the more galling.

“It’s very frustrating when you’re so close to getting at least a point and you come away with nothing,” he added.

“How many games have we lost 2-1 this season? To finally get the win is so good. We will take this feeling and run with it.”

Daggers’ recent upturn in form has coincided with the Essex club collecting their first two league clean sheets of the season.

And Kandi is pleased for the defence after they endured a tough start to the new term.

“The defenders have been comfortable playing with each other and are showing that on the pitch, working well together,” he said.

“For us to keep two clean sheets in a row as a team means we’re building momentum and we’re going to keep fighting.”
