Essex club fell to defeat on trip to U’s

Paul Doswell says Dagenham & Redbridge tested his Sutton United side in the final 10 minutes of a defeat for the Essex club in the Vanarama National League.

Daggers saw their two-game winning run come to an end with a 1-0 defeat at Gander Green Lane as Kieron Cadogan netted the winner for the U’s.

The Victoria Road outfit desperately search for an equaliser late on at Sutton, but were unable to find the goal that may have seen them take something from the game.

Doswell admits his United team were tested late on, but believes his side should have put the match to bed before then.

“It’s important to get the second goal, which we haven’t been able to do at home,” Doswell told the Sutton website.

“That led to a nervous 10 minutes where there were a lot of long throws coming in. I think I counted nine free-kicks for Dagenham, very soft free-kicks, which allowed them to get it in our box.

“Dagenham will probably think they were unlucky in that last 10 minutes not to get the equaliser. It took us to score the goal for them to come out and we had other chances to go two up, but it didn’t happen.”
