Tyrique Hyde hopes his debut for Dagenham & Redbridge last weekend was the start of a long and illustrious career in football.

The son of former Watford midfielder and current Daggers academy boss Micah, Tyrique came off the bench in the 89th minute during last Saturday’s 3-1 victory over Wealdstone in the FA Cup to make his first appearance for the Essex club.

Micah achieved much in the game, playing in the Premier League with the Hornets and representing Jamaica 17 times, something which the young Hyde is keen to emulate.

“Without my dad, I wouldn’t be the person or the player I am today, a lot of credit goes to him,” said the 17-year-old.

“He’s achieved some great things in his career and if I can achieve half of that, I’d be happy.”

Tyrique is still only a second- year academy scholar with the Essex club and despite playing on Saturday, Hyde featured for the full 120 minutes on Wednesday night for the youth team as they beat Braintree Town 4-2 in the FA Youth Cup.

Hyde appears to be among a number of promising youngsters in that squad, along with Joe White and Dylan Florence, while fellow scholars Jimmy Shepherd and Jakub Berkowicz were handed professional deals at the end of last season.

And the young midfielder knows all too well there are some talented youngsters in the squad who are more than capable of making the step up.

“There’s some good players in the team at the moment and we’re a good group. That’s down to the boss, who is a good manager!” he said, smiling.

Hyde, who has been involved in the last two matchday squads for Daggers having previously been on the bench for the final game of last season at Bristol Rovers, will also hope to feature again tomorrow (Saturday) when Macclesfield Town visit Victoria Road.

The Silkmen have not exactly had the best preparation for the match after boss John Askey expressed an interest in the vacant Wrexham job, despite Town being in the play-offs.

And Hyde knows Daggers can use that in their favour, even if he was not aware of the situation!

“I didn’t know that, but it’s nice to know now!” he said.

“Hopefully their squad will be a bit unsettled by that, so we can go straight at them tomorrow.

“If we play like I know how we can play, we’ll get the result. We’re a good side, better than most in the league.”
