Despite being in a rocky patch of form, Dagenham & Redbridge host National League strugglers York City this weekend. Don’t let their lowly position fool you, though, as the Minstermen have lost just once in their last 15 games in all competitions. So even though they are facing a relegation-threatened City, it will be hard for Daggers to get the win, especially after two disappointing defeats in the past week.

Against both Barrow at the weekend and at Aldershot Town on Tuesday night, Daggers were completely outplayed on their way to humbling losses. Corey Whitely’s goal away to the Bluebirds on Saturday came against the run of play, with the Cumbria side dominating the match both before and after that strike. As for the Aldershot game, Daggers never got going, with the performance of right-back Jake Sheppard particularly disappointing. Too often, the Reading loanee was outjumped, outmuscled, outmanoeuvred and out of position. The teenager has shown he can be a good midfielder, but he’s not doing too well defensively at the moment.

Turning the attention back to York, Gary Mills’ side came from 3-1 down to win 5-3 at home to Southport on Tuesday, and also shocked leaders Lincoln City to reach the final of the FA Trophy at the weekend. It’s been a terrific cup run for the Minstermen, but I’m sure they would have rather had more wins in the league, triumphing just seven times to date. With City’s fight for survival going down to the wire, they will certainly give Daggers a fierce fight at the weekend.

Hopefully a return to winning ways – come on you Daggers!
