Shots recorded a 2-0 win at Victoria Road in National League on Saturday

Aldershot Town boss Gary Waddock feels it was vital his team got an early goal in their 2-0 win at Dagenham & Redbridge in the National League.

John Still’s Daggers fell behind in just the fourth minute when Jim Kellerman scored for Shots from the edge of the area.

Scott Rendell then doubled the Hampshire side’s lead four minutes into the second half, converting an Adam McDonnell cross from close range.

With both goals coming early in each half, Daggers endured a poor start to both periods, something which Waddock feels helped Aldershot triumph.

“We started the game well with an early goal and we felt it would be crucial to get the first one because of the current situation Dagenham are in with their run of form and off-field problems as well,” said the 55-year-old. “The second half, we again started really well. We played and moved the ball better than we did in the first half.”
