Vanarama National League: Dagenham & Redbridge 1 (Kandi 79) Chesterfield 1 (Weston 13)

Dagenhma & Redbridge made it four games without defeat in the Vanarama National League with a 1-1 draw at home to Chesterfield.

The first half was a fairly even affair, though the visitors led after making the most of their only real chance of the half.

An error in the Spireites defence in the second half, though, presented Chike Kandi with a chance to level and the forward made the most of the opportunity.

Daggers boss Peter Taylor made just one change to his starting XI, with Kandi replacing Harry Donovan on the flank.

Donovan dropped to the bench, where he was joined by Alexander McQueen on his return from international duty.

The hosts struggled to create much of note early on and fell behind in the 13th minute when Curtis Weston tapped home from close range for the Spireites.

Taylor’s men perhaps should have been level in the 33rd minute when Gavin Hoyte’s cross from the right found Elliott Romain in the box, but the forward glanced his effort wide of the far post.

A dink into the area by Will Wright six minutes later found Kandi on the right of the box, but the winger’s resulting shot from a tight angle was comfortable for Chesterfield stopper Shwan Jalal.

Daggers were unable to create anything more of note before the break as they went down the tunnel trailing to Weston’s goal.

The hosts looked to get the ball down more in the second period, but were still unable to fashion many real chances to test the Chesterfield net.

Elliot Justham had to produce a fine save in the 72nd minute to keep the hosts just a goal behind, denying Bradley Barry with a header from close range.

However, Justham’s save saw him parry the ball to Shaw 12 yards out, but the forward fired over with the goal at his mercy.

The hosts made the most of their let-off and drew level seven minutes later through Kandi.

Will Wright looked to have fairly innocuously cleared a long ball with a header, but when Will Evans slipped for the visitors, it allowed Kandi in through on goal.

The forward took full advantage, chipping over the onrushing Jalal from the edge of the area.

Justham was at his best once more with seven minutes to go, denying Barry from close range after he had expertly been found by fellow replacement Laurence Maguire.

That save likely earned Daggers a share of the spoils as Taylor’s men look to maintain their unbeaten run at Eastleigh next Saturday.

Daggers (4-4-2): Justham; Hoyte, Goodliffe, Pennell (Phipps 77), Gordon; Kandi, Robinson, Wright, Harfield (McQueen 67); Romain, Adeloye (Reynolds 46).
