Latest news from the Essex FA

If your New Year’s resolution is to take a step into refereeing then now is the perfect time to do so.

That’s the claim of Essex FA Referee Development Officer James Lisher as he promotes the new range of courses and highlights the ongoing support packages for existing match officials.

There are over 1,600 registered referees in the county, ranging from those just setting out in the game to individuals who have progressed to officiating in the FA Premier League and Football League.

The Essex FA support the development of match officials from initially booking onto courses to gaining promotion, mentoring and development.

Referees can start to get involved from the age of just 14, and specific pathways are in place within both the men’s and women’s game for individuals who wish to move through the levels.

The county FA, through their Referee Development Team, offer advice from the outset, including details about the laws of the game and guidelines on fitness and nutrition.

If desired, further steps can be made into officiating by getting involved in one of the local mentoring schemes or society meetings to share experiences and advice with other referees.

Lisher said: “Refereeing is a brilliant aspect of the game to get into. We’re always here to answer queries about the laws of the game, misconduct reporting or any other aspect.”

To book a place on one of the forthcoming Basic Referee Courses with the Essex FA, visit www.essexfa.com and browse ‘Referees/Book Courses’.

Alternatively, call James Lisher on (01245) 393097 or E-Mail james.lisher@essexfa.com.

Information on refereeing is also shared on Twitter @EssexCountyFA and through Facebook (search for ‘EssexFootball’).
