Romford were beaten 4-3 in their derby encounter with Chadwell Heath this week in the London Super League.
But despite the narrow loss, they remain in second place, ahead of Lewisham on legs difference.
Ian Gallagher (24.25) opened proceedings and, after losing the opening leg, he assumed firm control, winning four legs on the bounce in a dominant display to get the hosts off the mark.
Steve Woodside (26.47) couldn’t increase the early advantage, but performed well in a tight game.
The first three legs all went against the throw, before the fourth was held to leave Woodside 3-1 down.
The next two legs also went the way of the player throwing first, which meant that Chadwell Heath clinched their opening point in the sixth leg to level.
Stuart Patt (21.51) has been playing much better of late and kept up the recent good work in the third match with a crucial break in leg three proving to be the defining moment of the contest.
Patt missed three match darts in the fifth leg, and had eight more in the sixth before finally taking out the winning double.
Steve Hardy (28.05) claimed man-of-the-match honours with another sparkling display as he quickly won the first three legs.
And from that point on it was merely a matter of time before he would see off his dogged opponent, which he did in the fifth.
The visitors began their comeback by taking the fifth game of the night as John Loeber (22.13) found things tough going before succumbing to defeat in the fifth leg.
Terry Goddard (23.00) started off like a house on fire and he quickly broke to go 2-0 ahead, but he couldn’t hold in the third and his opponent drew confidence.
After breaking Goddard’s throw again in the fifth leg, the Heath man ended the game in the sixth to level it.
John Costigan (22.48) struggled to find any rhythm and soon found himself on the edge of defeat at 3-0 down.
A brief respite came in the fourth leg, but that merely proved a consolation in his 4-1 defeat.
Romford travel away to West Ham next week.
