Bottom club Woodford Wells claimed a much-needed win in Shepherd Neame Essex League Division One over Gidea Park & Romford, who are now just two points above the drop zone.

Park captain Jamal Francis chose to bat after winning the toss, with openers George Rogers (34) and Russ Collard (25) making a solid start before falling to Viraj Ghandi (3-38), who also dismissed Sam Hewitt for a duck.

Harry Phillips fell without scoring to Rehan Iqbal (2-22), who also dismissed Francis for 53 off 62 balls to leave Park 124-5

Andrew Churchill (27) put on 57 with Callum Poultney (29), but both fell to George Ellis (2-20) as Park closed on 208-9.

And although Hewitt dismissed Wells captain Jonathan Gaffney cheaply in reply, the visitors saw George Styles put on 131 for the second wicket with Joe Johnson.

Styles fell one run short of a half-century, to Aditya Kumar, while Johnson went on to score 76 off 113 balls before falling to Churchill with the score on 163.

Gareth James (37 not out) and Iqbal then saw Wells to their target with seven wickets and 7.4 overs in hand to leave them only four points behind Orsett at the foot of the table.
