Chris Bennett blogs about life at Harold Wood CC
An early beer was enjoyed by the entirety of Harold Wood Cricket Club on Saturday, with the threes game against Hadleigh the only one to last beyond 5.30pm.
With no first innings on Saturday resulting in a score above 132 and no run chase lasting for more than 32 overs, anyone involved with Harold Wood Cricket Club would know this was a recipe for disaster.
It proved to be a heavy evening with Oasis, as always, being the band of choice for this particular party. “We love a party”.
Wickets tumbled to the Harold Wood bowling attacks all over the county.
New Wood recruits Mohammad Khan and Liam Brooks proved particularly successful for the seconds and thirds respectively.
The fourth team’s very experienced bowling attack of the returning Michael Rowe and Dean Eades ran through a shell shocked Leigh-on-Sea.
Calls of ‘Ohhhh yes’ were reportedly heard at the Wood, an impressive feat given that the fours were the away side.
Unfortunately for the second week in a row the first team were the only side not to taste success.
While most at the club toasted their own success well into the evening, Wood’s pleasantly plump first-team skipper had to lick his wounds and put up with an exceptionally smug Luke Hammatt for the evening.
With both the seconds and thirds boasting 100 per centstarts to the season and the fourths and fifths having both won two and drawn one it is a promising start to the 2015 campaign.
It is now up to the first team to push on and get their season back on track.
*Harold Wood Cricket Club, in conjunction with Simply Cricket, is running a player of the weekend award throughout this season.
Liam Brooks won the award this weekend for his impressive five-fer on Saturday.
He joins such illustrious names as a winner of the award as Ian Wooding and Anthony McManus.
In other big news for the club, the showerheads have finally been changed, much to the delight of the second team.
