Wanstead got back to winning ways in the Shepherd Neame Essex League Premier Division with a five-wicket success over Shenfield.

Having lost their hold on top spot a week earlier following defeat at Billericay, the Herons saw Zain Shahzad dismiss the dangerous Arshad Ali for a first-ball duck, while Suminda Balage Don sent Jack Potticary packing soon after.

Shenfield captain Jack Kliber put on 71 with Alan Jones (24) and had further support from Jamie Walton (21), but the rest of the batting fell away.

Kliber hit seven fours in his 76, before he was run out, as Shenfield were dismissed for 187 in the 48th over.

Wanstead captain Joe Ellis-Grewal (2-29), Mohammed Fayyaz Khan (2-29) and Shahzad (2-39) all nabbed braces, before Hassan Chowdhury (44) and Robin Das (36) put on 67 for the second wicket in reply.

Both fell in quick succession as the hosts slipped to 146-4, but Ellis-Grewal (30 not out) took them to their target with 16 balls to spare, after Adnan Akram (27) had also chipped in.
