Under-14s meet Hutton in Shenfield Academy League final

Upminster’s under-14s will take on their Hutton rivals in the final of the Shenfield Cricket Academy Indoor League at Shenfield High School tomorrow (Sunday, 6pm).

And they will be looking for revenge having been well beaten by Hutton in their opening game of the competition.

Upminster bounced back from that defeat by beating Shenfield, with Kiran Kullar, Ellis Pickeing and Matthew Bright in the runs, and they followed that up with a 59-run success over local rivals Hornchurch, when Pickering, Kullar and Bright were in the runs again before Harvey Daniels and Josh Mason shone with the ball.

Herongate were Upminster’s next opponents and with Daniels, Pickering and Kullar in good form Upminster made 99-1.

Jack Helen and Pickering then starred with the ball in the Herongate innings as Upminster won by 47 runs which meant they needed to beat Brentwood in their final group game to reach the final.

They did this with ease, winning by 38 runs to take their place in the final, and the Upminster fielding has been excellent throughout the competition, with Nathan Brown showing his skills with the keeping gloves and Jack Carter and Amani also putting in some excellent displays.

Five of Upminster’s squad are only in the under-13 age category and two more are in the under-12 category, which bodes well for the future.

A spokesman said: “Well done to manager Christian Pickering for his work with the team and any support on Sunday evening would be much appreciated by Christian and the lads.”

Upminster: Ellis Pickering, Harvey Daniels, Kiran Kullar, Nathan Brown, Josh Mason, Jack Helen, Matthew Bright, Amani, Jack Carter.

*Upminster’s under-10s are also into the final of their competition, which starts at 10am on Sunday.
