Butt hundred helps Upminster make it five in a row, but Hutton lose to promotion rival

Upminster made it five wins in a row in the Essex League Division One with a fine victory at Colchester and East Essex.

Ollie Peck won the toss and put the hosts into bat first, and saw his team restrict them to 235-7 off 50 overs.

Joe MacGregor hit 109 at the top of the order and Ollie Lovejoy added 55 not out, but Ejaz Khan (2-21), John Curtis (1-29) and Nabeel Aziz (1-35) kept Colchester in check.

In reply, wicket-keeper Farid Butt scored a rapid 59 off 35 balls and Shahbaz Butt hit 100 not out to see Upminster home by four wickets in the 47th over.

Colchester dropped out of the promotion places as a result after Buckhurst Hill won at home to leaders Hutton.

Hill batted first at Roding Lane and made 201 with number nine Usman Sahar hitting 59, but Joseph Parry’s 4-42 ensured the visitors only needed 202 to win.

Unfortunately Hutton struggled after Vivian Paver (23) and Julian Whetstone (38) were dismissed.

Tom Patterson scored 24 down the order, but the leaders were all out for 117 and yet they remain top with 237 points – 29 ahead of Buckhurst Hill.
